It was found 100 AU (15 billion km) from the Sun by Chad Trujillo, David Tholen, and Scott Sheppard. The object was announced on February 14, 2021. It is one of the most distant observable objects in the Solar System. 2020 FY30 is also a dwarf planet candidate.
